The Khmer Kampuchea Krom Association and Buddhist monks on August 11, 2014

The Khmer Kampuchea Krom Association and Buddhist monks shout slogans during a protest in front of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, in Phnom Penh. They presented a petition, on Aug. 11, to demand that the Vietnamese government apologize for the comment their spokesman gave last month. He declared that the territory of southern Vietnam (Mekong Delta) was historically owned by Vietnam. This part of southern Vietnam was part of Cambodia (Kampuchea Krom) and was handed over to Vietnam by France on June 4, 1949, during the French colonial era.
