The 37-year-old chief of finance at a real estate company in Phnom Penh was charged by the Phnom Penh Municipal Court yesterday with stealing more than $10,000 from his company last year.
Long Kimheng was charged with breach of trust yesterday afternoon under articles 391 and 392 of the Criminal Code, said municipal military police officer Keo Bunrith.
He was arrested by municipal military police on Monday and was sent to prison, Mr. Bunrith added.
He said Mr. Kimheng withdrew more than $10,000 from the real estate company for his personal use without authorization in June 2016. When the owner of the company found out, Mr. Kimheng promised to return the stolen money.
However, when the owner asked for repayment, the suspect said he did not have any money and continually asked to delay making payments until he was arrested in accordance with the court’s warrant, Mr. Bunrith said.
The owner of the company could not be reached for comment yesterday.
