Ferrets, Monitor Lizard Among Game Seized in Raid

The Wildlife Rapid Rescue Team of the Forestry Admiration (WRRT) confiscated over 100 kilograms of game meat during a raid of a house in Ratanakkiri province yesterday, according to police.

Antelope meat, monitor lizards and live ferrets were all among the seized game found at the house.

An official who wished to remain anonymous said, “We found some meat of wildlife and some wildlife still alive.

We buried the meat, and we will free the wildlife which is still alive on Thursday along a road in Mondulkiri province.”

Hong Sothon and his wife, Phon Chomroeun, are suspects in this case. Both could face fines, but because they have very little money, they will most likely be sent to court, the official said.

Military police spokesman Eng Hy confirmed the raid yesterday.
