PHNOM PENH,(Xinhua) — Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen has formally recognized his Facebook page, the government said Sunday.
“The Prime Minister’s cabinet would like to announce that the official Facebook page of the prime minister is ‘Samdech Hun Sen, Cambodian Prime Minister,'” the government said in a statement.
In June 2013, Hun Sen publicly denied any connection to the Facebook page, which was likely to be firstly run by his aides.
As of Sunday evening, the prime minister’s page, which shows positive things such as the development of infrastructure, attracted 1,062,421 likes.
Meanwhile, the official Facebook page of opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party president Sam Rainsy received 1,684,301 likes.
Social media, specifically Facebook, is very popular in this Southeast Asian country, where over 5 million people of the country’s nearly 15 million people have access to the Internet.
