PHNOM PENH, Sept. 10 (Xinhua) — Cambodia’s largest international exhibition on construction and real estate kicked off here on Thursday, bringing together 350 exhibitors from 23 countries and regions, officials said.

Held at the Diamond Island Exhibition Center, the 3-day event attracted most of the exhibitors from China, India, Malaysia, Thailand, China’s Taiwan, and Singapore, said Noun Veasna, representative of AMB Event-Cambodia, which organized the annual exhibition.

“The expo is a good opportunity for developers, architects and contractors to see all the latest products in one place,” he said. “It also creates many business opportunities as a lot of new exhibitors are looking for importers and distributors.”

Phoeung Sophorn, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction, said the exhibition was a large international event in Cambodia and would contribute to the development of construction and real estate.

“Construction sector is a boost to the national economic growth in addition to garment industry, tourism and agriculture,” he said at the opening ceremony of the exhibition.

According to the official, the country received a total investment of 2.5 billion U.S. dollars in construction projects last year and additional 808 million U.S. dollars in the first six months of this year.

Currently, 687 construction companies are operating in Cambodia, he said.
