Battambang provincial authorities yesterday announced a new border pass for provincial residents to ease their crossing into Thailand, following a similar announcement by Banteay Meanchey province on Tuesday.
Battambang Governor Ngoun Ratanak said that his province would also allow residents to apply for the new border pass starting on Monday.
“It will allow Battambang residents who wish to cross to some provinces in Thailand for business to do so easily, so please come to do the border bass at the Provincial Hall starting on Monday,” said Mr Ratanak.
Banteay Meanchey authorities released a statement on Tuesday informing residents of the province that they were eligible for the new passes, which were agreed upon by both countries.
The statement said the new border pass will cost $5 and be valid for two years for multiple entries in and out of Thailand.
The same scheme is being applied for Battambang residents, allowing them to easily cross in and out of Thailand’s Trat, Chon Buri, and Sa Kaeo provinces, said Mr Ratanak.
He added that some vendors cross in and out of Thailand daily and that the new pass will ease logistics for them. “They spend only $5 to get the border pass and they can cross to those provinces every time they need to,” he said.
