At least five people died in a traffic accident in Pursat province’s Krakor district when a Capitol bus and a car and truck collided, also leaving one female tourist from Germany injured, the provincial police chief said.
Saron Chanthy, the Pursat provincial police chief, told Khmer Times that the accident happened at about 4:40pm on Tuesday and four people died instantly, while another died later in hospital.
The accident also caused injuries to four other passengers, including a female tourist from Germany.
According to the police chief, among the five dead was Soth Dara, who was the chief councillor of Krakor district. Mr Dara was driving a car that collided with the bus, which was going from Phnom Penh to Battambang.
“Our police officers are seeking the addresses of the victims. We have identified three people now,” he said, adding that all the injured passengers had been taken to the provincial hospital, but the German tourist was taken for treatment in Phnom Penh.
Witness Saron Chanthy said the bus hit the car of the district councillor, which was coming in the opposite direction, then the bus veered left and hit a truck.
