Police are seeking to arrest a soldier suspected of killing his wife by strangling her dead in a jealous rage.
The murder took place on Saturday night at the suspect’s rental home in Phnom Penh’s Dangkor district.
Sok Phally, a Dangkor district police officer, identified the victim as Dim Sareth, 30, a garment worker.
Mr Phally identified the suspect as her husband Phath Sokheang, 40, a soldier who remains at large.
Mr Phally said that according to witnesses, the couple were arguing before the murder because the suspect was jealous and accusing his wife of having an affair.
He said neighbours who heard the arguing did not intervene because they had heard the couple arguing many times in the past and violence never came of it.
Mr Phally added that the following day, the landlord did not see the couple emerge from their room, and so opened the door to see if anyone was home, leading to the discovery of the victim’s body.
“According to an examination of the victim’s body, before she was killed, she was seriously beaten,” said Mr Phally. “After beating her, the suspect killed her by strangling her.”
He added that police are seeking to arrest the suspect.
