A water taxi system linking Prek Pnov, the northern part of Phnom Penh, to Takhmao city in Kandal province via the Mekong River, is expected to start in April as the some water taxi stations have already been selected.
“We will make the water taxi service before Khmer New Year as our officials are conducting discussions over selecting stations and boats to carry passengers,” said Sun Chanthol, the Minister of Public Works and Transport.
Without going into any detail of the price and schedules of the water taxi service, Mr Chanthol said using the water taxi system will reduce traffic jams on main roads.
The ministry is studying where to build ports along the rivers to make waterway transportation diversified.
