Prominent radio host Mam Sonando, who has dual French and Khmer citizenship, said on Monday he had resigned from politics and as a director of the Beehive Radio station to provide opportunities for the younger generation.
“I, Mam Sonando, am pleased to resign from politics and as the director of the Beehive Radio station,” read the letter Mr Sonando signed and made public on Monday.
“My resignation from the political scene is in order for young politicians to continue their obligations for the nation,” he said.
He added that Din Phanara, the acting director of Beehive Radio, will take over this position.
“I am only maintaining my activities as a humanitarian and have no political tendencies,” Mr Sonando said.
He said he had served for 22 years to help society as a humanitarian and in his political career and educated people about their rights and freedoms, especially threats to democracy in Cambodian society.
Last August, Mr Sonando resigned as president of the Beehive Social Democratic Party in the aftermath of the party’s poor performance in the June commune polls.
