A 49-year-old Chinese national was yesterday charged by the municipal court with drug trafficking for transporting nearly half a kilo of crystal methamphetamine into Phnom Penh.

Sok Sarith, a police officer with the anti-drug police department, identified the accused as Tsal Janko, who is now in pre-trial detention at Prey Sar prison.

Mr Sarith said that the accused was arrested on Friday afternoon after police raided his rental home located in Daun Penh district’s Phsar Thmey 3 commune.

“He was an active distributor of drugs to Chinese or other foreign drug users in Phnom Penh,” Mr Sarith said. “Police recently arrested some South Korean drug users, who then revealed the location of their supplier’s home.”

He added that after the arrest, police seized 29 packages of crystal meth, 13 small packages of branched tablets, one drug scale and other drug-related materials.
