Battambang Provincial Court charged a 14-year-old boy yesterday for allegedly killing a pregnant woman and injuring an infant during an attempted robbery.
Cheth Vanny, chief of the Provincial Major Crime Police Unit, identified the suspect as Huon Reahou, 14, living in Roung Ampil village, Khnarch Romeas commune.
If convicted, the accused faces life imprisonment.
Mr Vanny said the accused was arrested on December 29 in Roung Ampil village after he killed his older half-sister, Huon Rany, 30, who was eight months pregnant at the time of her death.
He also severely injured the victim’s three-year-old daughter.
The accused allegedly killed his half-sister by striking her with an axe to the head.
Eam Tith, chief of Bavel district police, said the body of the victim was found in front of her house by neighbours on December 27. Her daughter was found nearby, with a severe wound on her neck.
After being rushed to the provincial hospital, the three-year-old identified the accused as the murderer. He was promptly arrested, and police confiscated an axe from him.
Mr Reahou confessed he was a drug user, and said he killed his half-sister to steal money from her to purchase drugs.
“He said he only cut the victim’s daughter because she tried to help her mother,” Mr Tith said.
