Two officials working for Por Sen Chey District Hall were charged on Saturday by Phnom Penh Municipal Court for allegedly beating a 21-year-old woman after she cursed at them following a traffic accident.
District police officer Meng Touch said the suspects were brothers and identified them as Sum Sovannarith, 30, and Sum Sathya Ponnareay, 26.
He said they were charged with intentional acts of violence and sent to Prey Sar prison. They face up to three years in prison if convicted.
Mr Touch added that they were arrested on December 25 after being sued by Chhae Sophal.
According to a police report, the suspects were driving their car along Russian Federation Boulevard at about 10am on December 24 when they hit the victim’s motorbike from behind, causing a little damage.
The victim was angry and badly cursed them, Mr Touch added. “They were angry at the victim for badly insulting and cursing them. So they stopped the car and beat and kicked her until she was injured,” he said. “After beating her, they fled.”
The victim drove to the Por Sen Chey district police station and filed a lawsuit against them the same day, Mr Touch added.
