The Appeal Court yesterday denied a bail request for two former Radio Free Asia staff .

The former reporters, Uon Chhin and Yeang Sothearin, are accused of espionage, and face up to 15 years in jail after being arrested with broadcasting equipment authorities say were to be used to make reports to send back to the United States.

Keo Vanny, a defence lawyer for the two RFA staffers, said he would appeal to the Supreme Court so that the judgment can be overturned.

Mr Vanny believes the Supreme Court would release his clients, and continues claiming his clients’ innocence.

The two former RFA staffers were arrested in Phnom Penh’s Marady Hotel on November 14. They are currently being detained at Prey Sar prison.
