Four men were arrested yesterday over the gang rape and murder of a 27-year-old woman, whose body was discarded in an abandoned house in Sen Sok district.
Hor Savuth, a Sen Sok district police officer, said that the four suspects were arrested after police investigations revealed the men often smoked drugs near the murder site.
Mr Savuth said the suspects are not yet being identified because police are continuing to work on the case.
Mr Savuth said that on Friday evening at about 7pm, the body of a woman was found naked at an abandoned house near the railway in Sen Sok district’s Phnom Penh Thmey commune.
He identified the victim as Chhun Momsoksivutha, 27, a dish cleaner from Takeo province working at a restaurant in Phnom Penh Thmey commune.
He added that she was living in a rental room in Teuk Thla commune, near the murder and rape scene.
Mr Savuth said the woman was walking home near the railway tracks when the group of men grabbed her, gang-raped her and killed her before disposing of her body.
“According to an examination of the victim’s body, before the murder she was badly raped by a group of men,” he said. “After the gang rape, they killed her by strangling her and then brought her body to hide in the abandoned house before fleeing.”
Hour Mengvang, Sen Sok district police chief, said district police officers were continuing to question the four suspects at the police station.
“They are being interrogated by our police officers,” he said, declining to comment further.
