The Royal Ballet of Cambodia, closely associated with the Khmer court of royalty, goes back over one century. This dance form was almost annihilated during the time of the Khmer Rouge, when the genocidal regime killed dancers and musicians. In 1979, after the defeat of the Pol Pot regime, the dance form was revived.
The upcoming Royal Ballet Season will take place on January 12-13 at Chaktomuk Theater, the Neak Moneang Phat Kanhol Foundation and UNESCO Cambodia announced recently.
Her Royal Highness Princess Norodom Buppha Devi, former Minister of Culture and First Ballerina, with the support of donors has been instrumental in reviving the Royal Ballet. Princess Buppha Devi is also the chairperson of the Neak Moneang Phat Kanhol Foundation.
