CHICAGO (AFP) – Japanese free agent pitcher Yu Darvish says he has met with the Chicago Cubs about a Major League Baseball deal while a new report has the Houston Astros interested also.
The 31-year-old right-hander posted on social media that he met Monday with Cubs representatives. The four-time All-Star confirmed reports Cubs president of baseball operations Theo Epstein and general manager Jed Hoyer were in Dallas to speak with Darvish.
In addition, a Tuesday website report at FanRag Sports had Darvish set to meet with the World Series champion Houston Astros, the same club that twice hammered him in the best-of-seven major league championship final when he pitched for the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Also said to be interested in Darvish were the Minnesota Twins.
Darvish went 10-12 with a 3.86 earned-run average in 31 combined starts last season for the Dodgers and Texas Rangers, striking out 209 batters over 186 2/3 innings.
