More than 700 new soldiers from Stung Treng province have been sent for training at the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces’ military school in Kampong Speu province.

Meng Kong, spokesman for Stung Treng provincial hall, said the new soldiers have a duty to protect the country according to the law.

“The provincial governor told those new soldiers that they must respect the constitution and laws of Cambodia to defend our land,” said Mr Kong. “He also asked them to work hard and become good soldiers.”

Provincial military commander Brigadier General Svay Nhon said that 734 new soldiers would attend the military school.

“When they finish their training, they will work in RCAF’s region 1, RCAF’s new brigade 128, and in provincial military units,” said Brig Gen Nhon.

In October, Defence Ministry spokesman General Chhum Sucheat the new brigade 128 was created in response to a border row with Laos.

“Infantry brigade 128 will have more than 3,000 personnel including new recruits and experienced troops,” he said.
