Takeo Provincial Court charged a 17-year-old farmer yesterday for allegedly smuggling 24 kilograms of dried marijuana across the Cambodian-Vietnamese border.
Muth Sarath, Kirivong district deputy police chief, identified the accused as Auk Thindavin, who was living near the border in the district.
He was charged with “drug trafficking and possession”.
Mr Thindavin attempted to smuggle the marijuana into Vietnam on a motorbike with a friend on November 8, but fled into the forest after spotting a border checkpoint.
Police arrested Mr Thindavin and seized 24 kilograms of marijuana, but his accomplice evaded capture. Police are still actively looking for the other suspect.
