A South African national and his Cambodian girlfriend were charged by the municipal court yesterday with drug possession.
Touch Vibol, a police officer with Por Senchey district police, identified the accused as Chi Boy, 21, a South African tourist, and Chan Lin, 20, who were in the posssesion of nearly half a kilogram of marijuana in Phnom Penh.
Mr Vibol said the suspects were arrested carrying the marijuana on their motorbike at a checkpoint in Phnom Penh’s Por Senchey district.
Mr Vibol said the charges and the quantity of marijuana seized were sufficient to send them both to jail for at least five years if convicted. Ms Lin is two months pregnant.
