One factory worker was killed and another 40 were injured following a traffic accident on Friday in Kampong Speu province.
The Labour Ministry said that a factory truck driver hit another car and overturned, claiming the life of a worker and injuring 40 others, 16 of them seriously.
Ministry spokesman Heng Sour said the ministry was quick to intervene and send the victims to medical facilities. Some of the workers are being treated in Kampong Speu, and others in Phnom Penh.
Kampong Speu Governor Vy Samnang visited the injured workers in the hospital Saturday.
“It is very important for drivers to examine their trucks before driving, and to obey traffic laws to avoid accidents,” he said.
The driver fled the scene and his whereabouts are still unknown.
On Friday, Interior Minister Sar Kheng asked officials to lead by example and obey traffic laws.
Mr Kheng ordered all civil servants to respect the law through the implementation of 12 rules, including wearing helmets, safety belts, carry the vehicle’s ID card and license, and obeying traffic signs.
According to the Ministry of Interior, in the first 11 months of 2017, there was 3,234 traffic accidents, killing 1,617 people and injuring 5,107.
