Thais rescued from house lock-up

Khy Sovuthy / Khmer Times No Comments Share:

The Interior Ministry’s penal department yesterday cooperated with officials from the internal security department and Thai embassy to rescue nine Thai nationals who were confined to a house in Phnom Penh’s Tuol Kork district.

The victims were seven men and two women.

Officers also detained three suspects; two Taiwanese nationals and one Malaysian.

Lieutenant General Sok Khemarin, director of the Interior Ministry’s penal department, said his officials conducted the raid in conjunction with partners from other agencies.

“We rescued nine Thai nationals and arrested three suspects,” Lt Gen Khemarin said. “All nine Thai nationals were confined to a house in Tuol Kork district.”

“We will investigate the details of this case,” he added, saying that Thai embassy officials provided information to police ahead of the raid. “We will continue to question the suspects following procedures,” Lt Gen Khemarin added, declining to comment further.
