Kratie provincial police are hunting an inmate who escaped from prison while working at the facility’s wood shop, officials said yesterday.
San Keo, spokesman for the General Department of Prisons, said the prisoner escaped a few days ago and police were looking to rearrest him.
“He escaped a few days ago and now experts are working on the case,” Mr Keo said.
According to local news, Chorn Hing Ratana was among several inmates who fled on Saturday while working at the jail’s furniture processing shop at about 11am.
Chorn Hing Ratana had been charged with theft with aggravating circumstances and was in pretrial detention for about two months before the escape.
Provincial prison chief Kva Saran told local news that the escape was made possible by the carelessness of the prison guards. Mr Saran could not be reached for comment yesterday.
