A 38-year-old land dealer was yesterday jailed by Kandal Provincial Court for selling his friend’s land worth nearly $200,000 without his permission in Khsarch Kandal district in 2016.

Seng Chantha, a provincial military police officer, identified the accused as Chheng Bunthoeun and added that he was arrested yesterday.

Mr Chantha said in 2015, Mr Bunthoeun was asked by his close friend to look after a plot of land in Prek Takouv commune.

In July 2016, the suspect forged land documents, sold the land for nearly $200,000 and then fled the district.

The victim later filed a lawsuit against the suspect near the end of 2016.

“He was arrested yesterday in accordance with a court warrant for his arrest,” Mr Chantha said.

“He was previously charged in absentia by the Kandal Provincial Court with selling another person’s property.”

Mr Chantha added that after his arrest, the suspect was jailed pending his trial.
