The government and NGOs have started a 16-day campaign dubbed White Ribbon to raise awareness over and put an end to violence against women and children.

The Ministry of Women’s Affairs yesterday urged Cambodians throughout the country to join the campaign to stop violence against women.

“Join the campaign to stop violence against women and children by changing your profile on social media to show that we all stand against violence against women,” a statement from the ministry said yesterday.

The campaign kicked off on Saturday and runs until December 10.

Sri Van Thol, country director of ADD International, said that women and children still suffer from domestic violence.

“Women and children must live happily, so stop using violence against them,” he said.

According to a Unite Cambodia to End Violence Against Woman post on its Facebook page yesterday, 30 percent of women still suffer from domestic violence throughout the country.
