A woman in the property business was charged on Saturday and jailed over issuing a bad cheque worth $390,000 to another businesswoman.
Phnom Penh Municipal court ordered that Hok Phalla, 47, be detained temporarily in Prey Sar prison.
Earlier, the court prosecutor issued a warrant for her arrest following her failure to turn up for questioning after being summoned three times.
Municipal military police officer Ly Vannak said Ms Phalla, of Sen Sok district, was charged on Saturday with issuing a bad cheque.
A military police report said that in July last year she borrowed $390,000 from her friend who was also in the property business and who lived in Phnom Penh. The money was to improve Ms Phalla’s businesses.
Ms Phalla signed a contract with the plaintiff promising to return the money by the end of August this year.
On the deadline, she issued cheques worth $390,000 to the plaintiff to draw the money from her local bank.
But when the plaintiff went to withdraw the money there was nothing in the account.
The plaintiff filed a lawsuit against her with Phnom Penh Municipal Court in September.
