Two Vietnamese drug users were yesterday charged by Phnom Penh Municipal Court over drug use and burning down a rented house.

Leng Vichetr, a Daun Penh district police officer, identified the suspects as Lim Yaing Ngoc, 27, and Suon Socheat, 24. Both were unemployed. They were arrested on the on Friday in Phnom Penh.

Mr Vichetr said the pair was smoking drugs inside Mr Yaing Ngoc’s rented house when arrested.

The suspect’s wife walked in, and got into an argument with her husband about his drug habit.

This led him to take a bottle of gasoline, pouring it in the room, and burning it.

“The fire burnt not only the rented room, but the entire house as well,” Mr Vichetr said.

The two men were charged with drug use and arson, and face up to three years in prison if convicted.
