Two men were caught transporting illegally logged timber by Tbong Khmum provincial authorities on Wednesday.
Provincial police chief Major General Pen Roth said police and officials from the forestry administration stopped the men while they were driving trucks in Krek district and found pieces of timber.
Maj Gen Roth was unable to comment further, saying he was still unaware of the amount of timber seized, but said it had been logged illegally.
According to the National Police website, authorities seized 23 pieces of luxury-grade logs and transferred them to the forestry administration’s Dambae cantonment for further legal action.
Two men were arrested and the trucks were impounded along with the wood at the forestry administration cantonment.
Earlier this week, authorities in Kampong Thom province seized 69 pieces of tembusu wood and ten pieces of luxury-grade thnong wood being transported by car and tractor.
All were sent to the forestry administration in Kampong Thmar for further investigation.
