Phnom Penh police on Tuesday arrested two businessmen in Preah Sihanouk province for forging public documents and stealing more than $100,000 from bank in 2015.
“They were arrested in accordance with the court’s warrant for their arrests,” Sok Visal, a Phnom Penh police officer, said yesterday. “They were charged with fraud and forgery of public documents.”
He identified the accused as Sao San, 39, and Sam Pha, 59, both real estate agents in Prey Nob district.
He added that they were yesterday questioned at the municipal court by the investigating judge.
Mr Visal said in December 2015 the two suspects borrowed more than $100,000 from a bank in Phnom Penh in order to improve their businesses.
They submitted a land title for a residence in Phnom Penh’s Sen Sok district as well as other related documents to the bank as a guarantee against the loan.
But about 10 months later, they had lapsed on their monthly repayments. The bank took the land title to seize the property and discovered that it had been forged.
The bank later filed a lawsuit against them to Phnom Penh Municipal Court.
