Two soldiers were seriously injured after their motorbike hit a pick-up truck in Koh Kong province yesterday.
Local police chief Toun Saroun attributed the accident to careless driving and a curved road.
“The two recruits were seriously injured, but the car driver was innocent in this accident,” he said.
The young soldiers, Ul Vichhay, 23, and Roy Sokun, 22, both had their legs broken.
Due to the severity of their injuries, they were sent to Phnom Penh for treatment.
The police chief in charge of traffic in Koh Kong, Kao Bunkim, said police were collecting evidence, but noted a final settlement will be made between the military and the driver of the pick-up truck.
“The two sides will negotiate by themselves outside of police involvement,” he said.
