Two women were charged with human trafficking by Kratie Provincial Court yesterday after they brought two women to China to become brides.
Doch Och, deputy chief of the provincial anti-human trafficking police, said Phim Khema, 45, and Do Sinat, 43, were arrested at their homes in Chhlong district on Friday after police got information about the trafficking.
The would-be brides were rescued. Mr Och said that Ms Khema and Ms Sinat admitted their involvement.
“They lured these women to travel to China to be brides,” he said, urging other woman to be careful. “There are many cases of Cambodian women who are victims after being sent to China to be brides.”
He added that police would investigate how many other women the suspects brought to China.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it helped repatriate more than 450 Cambodian workers in the first six month of the year, of which 22 were women from China.
