Military police and forestry administration officials in Kampong Thom province seized two vehicles full of illegal luxury timber yesterday.
A military police officer from Santuk district said authorities stopped a tractor and discovered some pieces of timber in Kampong Thmar commune.
“We found 69 pieces of tembusu wood and transferred them to the Forestry Administration’s Kampong Thmar cantonment for further legal action,” he said, adding that the timber had been logged illegally.
The officer declined to name the driver who transported the timber.
According to local media, authorities also seized 10 pieces of luxury-grade thnong wood being transported by a car in Baray district, where two young men were arrested over allegations of transporting timber illegally.
The car was impounded along with the wood at the Forestry Administration’s Kampong Thmar cantonment.
