An ice factory was destroyed by a fire in Sihanoukville’s Prey Nob district early Sunday due to a gas explosion, a police official said yesterday.Hing Chanrith, police chief of Prey Nop district, said the fire destroyed most of the ice factory and a truck which was parked nearby.

He said that the firefighters used 10 trucks to extinguish the fire, which sparked at about 2am and was put out an hour later.

“No one got injured,” he said. “Police are documenting the damages now. The owner of the factory said a gas explosion caused the fire.”

According to the Interior Ministry, there were 612 fires across the Kingdom last year. The blazes killed 14 people and injured 54, while 1,341 shops and 760 houses were destroyed.
