The Ministry of Social Affairs plans to create an elderly care centre, which would be the first centre in Cambodia focused on receiving and taking care of the elderly. Officials said it might be created next year.

The ministry’s undersecretary of state Mom Bunthorn said the plan for building the centre will start after the government officially enforces the national policy for elderly people for 2017-2030.

Mr Bunthorn said the centre will be located in Phnom Penh’s Por Senchey district and will be under government management to help elderly people who do not have a home or a family.

There are about one million people in Cambodia that are over 60 years of age.
