Police in Stung Treng province’s Siem Pang district arrested a mother and her son on Wednesday night for trafficking drugs in their village in Thmor Keo commune.
District deputy police chief Chheang Sokhom said both the mother and son have been arrested twice before in the past over the same crime.
“They are old drug trafficking suspects. They were arrested twice before. We knew that they continued with the business, so we had to arrest them again,” he said. “We seized 976 pills. All of them were methamphetamine. They brought them from Laos for resale to villagers from their home in their village.”
“The mother and son are drug addicts,” he added. “The mother could not quit although she was sent to rehab, while the son was imprisoned twice. Both of them sold drugs as well as using them themselves.”
Mr Sokhom identified the pair as Vanna Khim, 51, and her son Simom Kilem, 21. He said both are still being questioned by police.
