A businessman who was convicted of fraud in absentia in July has been arrested and jailed, a court official said yesterday.
Kao Sothea, executive director of the Australia-Cambodia Group, was convicted to two years imprisonment for cheating $100,000 from the plaintiff Pho Kimsoun in a land transaction.
The offence took place in Banteay Meanchey province’s Serey Sophoan town in 2007.
Mr Sothea was ordered to pay $70,000 dollars in damages to Mr Kimsoun in addition to his jail term.
Banteay Meanchey provincial court spokesman Sok Keobandith confirmed that Mr Sothea had already been detained.
“He was sent to the provincial prison,” he said.
