SilkAir celebrates 25 years in Cambodia

SilkAir, in conjunction with their 25th anniversary in Phnom Penh this month has announced the launching of special fare deals to selected Asia-Pacific destinations.

The airline’s  maiden flight from Singapore to Phnom Penh was launched in October 1992 with three flights a week and has increased several folds to three flights a day.

As the company celebrates its silver jubilee in Phnom Penh, SilkAir’s Cambodia country manager, Mr. Kelvin Teo said the airline  remains committed to provide the best of service to its customers.

“Aside from providing ease of access between Phnom Penh and Singapore, the airline also provides good connections via Singapore Changi Airport hub to over 50 destinations across its network in the Asia-Pacific region, such as Hiroshima, Japan, and Cairns, Australia. Together with its parent company, Singapore Airlines, the airlines fly to over 100 destinations around the world, connecting Cambodians to all five major continents.”

“SilkAir is committed to serving the Cambodian market and is looking forward to enhance comfort in travelling on our flights between Phnom Penh and Singapore through the launch of the state-of-the-art Boeing 737 Max 8 on this route.”

SilkAir Phnom Penh was amongst the first destinations in the airline’s network to welcome the Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft. The new MAX 8 enables the airline to offer customers access to new and exciting destinations and paves the way for a new phase of growth.

The airline’s Chief Executive, Mr. Foo Chai Woo said: “As the regional wing of Singapore Airlines, SilkAir operates the Singapore Airlines Group’s narrow body fleet and extends the Group network by seeding and developing new, exciting destinations in Asia Pacific.”

The airline took to the skies in February 1989 as Tradewinds the Airline, before evolving into SilkAir in 1992.

In its early days, the airline catered to passengers holidaying in exotic destinations in the region, including Phuket and Tioman. As the carrier developed, regional business destinations such as Phnom Penh, Yangon and Kuala Lumpur were added.
