A tycoon was arrested yesterday in Phnom Penh’s Chamkarmon district for issuing a bad cheque worth more than $1 million.

Bun Sathya, Phnom Penh minor crime police chief, said Chuop Chan was arrested near Tuol Tompoung pagoda.

“We arrested him based on a court warrant,” Mr Sathya said.

According to the warrant, Mr Chan, 45, failed to fulfil obligations to the Kim Hak Company in Tuol Svay Prey 1 commune in June.

“To avoid the defendant fleeing and to guarantee the investigation Chuop Chan must appear for questioning by the investigating judge to find the truth,” the warrant said.

A report on Fresh News yesterday said that Mr Chan issued a cheque worth more than $1 million to the Kim Hak Company in June in relation to business he was conducting with tycoon Kim Kao.

On September 13, a complaint was filed to police after the cheque bounced.
