Cambodia and Australia have been conducting studies to prevent a class of diseases prevalent in both countries.

A zoonotic disease is an affliction that can be passed from an animal to a human.

Australian Ambassador Angela Corcoran met Agriculture Minister Veng Sakhorn on Wednesday to discuss ways to prevent diseases transmitted from human to animal and vice versa.

“This project will guarantee the quality of animal health, meat regulations, and promote public health, especially to curb diseases transmitted by animals along the borders with neighbouring countries,” he said.

Sen Sovann of the general department for animal health and production said Australian experts had been conducting research to better understand the health systems of many countries in Asia.

The Australians have worked closely with the ministries of agriculture and of health, he said.
