Police yesterday arrested a Colombian man for stealing an iPhone 6 Plus from a shop in Phnom Penh’s Daun Penh district.

Sek Vutha, chief of Phsar Thmey 1 commune police, identified the suspect as 26-year-old Mora Alba David Estien.

He said the man visited the shop yesterday afternoon and pretended to be interested in purchasing the phone.

. .

He asked the shop owner to let him look at the model, then requested to see the charger as well, before trying to switch the new phone with his old one.

The shop owner saw what he was doing and quickly contacted police.

“The shop owner filed a complaint with district police,” Mr Vutha said. “The suspect was also captured on security camera.”

Mr Vutha added the suspect was broke, and that it was the first time a foreigner had stolen a phone in his commune.

The suspect was sent to district police headquarters.

. .

“I appeal to all phone shops to install security cameras, so when they see any criminal activities, they can call police immediately,” Mr Vutha said.
