A thief whom police believe to be behind numerous thefts from guesthouses, hotels and luxury homes was arrested yesterday in Siem Reap province.

Sok Chamreoun, a Siem Reap city police officer, identified the suspect as Teng Sokhavith, 29, a hotel worker.

“He is an experienced thief who has often stolen properties from guesthouses or hotels or villas during the night in Siem Reap City,” Mr Chamreoun said.

“He stole peoples’ properties more than ten times before being caught.”

Mr Chamreoun said that on Wednesday of last week, the suspect climbed a fence to access a villa in Sala Kamroeuk commune, where he stole two mobile phones.

On Saturday, he broke into a different villa and stole money, jewelry and a phone.

Mr Chamreoun said the suspect was arrested yesterday after he brought the stolen goods to sell at a local market.

After his arrest, police confiscated the phones, but could not recovery the stolen money or jewellery.

The suspect is today due in court for questioning.
