A 33-year-old masseuse was found strangled to death on Saturday in the room she rented in Phnom Penh’s Meanchey district.
District police chief Teng Sino said she was identified from as Chhorn Thoeun.
“According to the primary examination of the victim’s body, she was raped by her attacker, as she was found without clothes on,” he said.
“After the sexual assault, the victim was strangled with a krama and wire, which were wrapped around her throat. After the murder, the suspect fled.”
Mr Sino said neighbours found the body at about 1.30pm on Monday. They reported the murder to the local police.
District penal police chief Hour Mengyang said the authorities were working hard to identify the suspect and bring him to justice.
“We do not know the reason for the murder yet, nor the identity of the killer,” he said.
However he was confident the killer would be brought to court.
