Firms employing as few as one member of staff have been urged to register with the National Social Security Fund to obtain benefits for their workers.

NSSF director Ouk Samvithya last week said companies of all sizes would now be allowed to use the scheme.

“Previously we only accepted employers with at least eight workers, but from now on even those with only one worker can register with NSSF to get social protection services for staff,” he said.

“We will encourage businesses to register quickly, but if they do not, we will visit them and tell them directly. So far more than 9,000 employers have registered with us.”

He said employers can register with the NSSF in all 24 provinces and the capital.

Labour Minister Ith Samheng last month said employers must register with NSSF to fulfil their responsibilities to staff and ensure workers don’t miss out on social security benefits.

The NSSF has agreements with more than 1,200 local health centres for workers to get free 24-hour health care.
