More than 100 Interior Ministry officials jumped into higher-status salary bands last month after being promoted.
The ministry has three salary bands for administrative officials, junior, senior and high. Each band is subdivided into grades.
According to a sub-decree signed by Prime Minister Hun Sen, 78 ministry staff have been promoted from senior to high levels, while 26 others have gone from junior to senior.
Ministry Secretary of State Sac Seta said yesterday the main reason for the promotions was because those officers have higher education qualifications.
“They have bachelor’s degrees or masters degrees for the promotion and we need high knowledge and capacity of our officers to improve public service,” he said.
Legal professor Sao Deluxe agreed that the government should promote public servants to higher grades for their administrative functions.
“Education level is the foundation for promotion based on their ability to work with good ethics in line with the law.”
