Military police and forestry officials in Preah Vihear province raided a house containing an illegal timber stock on Wednesday.
Brigadier General Kang Saokun, provincial military police chief, said the raid followed weeks of monitoring the house in Kampong Pranak commune.
“We found a truck with about 14 cubic metres of wood that had been logged illegally,” he said.
“It was transferred along with the truck to the Forestry Administration’s Tbreng Meanchey cantonment for further investigation and possible legal action.”
Brig Gen Saokun declined to reveal the names of the timber owners, but said they had fled and their whereabouts were unknown.
In a separate incident over the weekend, Kampong Thom authorities caught three minivans transporting 79 pieces of illegal luxury wood and sent it to the Forestry Administration’s Kampong Thmar cantonment for further investigation. The drivers were freed.
