Four suspected drug traffickers, including a soldier, were charged yesterday by the Preah Vihear Provincial Court with illegal use of weapons and possessing nearly half a kilo of crystal methamphetamine.
Chan Piseth, 30, the soldier, construction worker Khorn Davuth, 23, and farmers Veng Henghuoth, and Sok Sophea, both 19, were sent to prison pending further investigation.
Provincial police anti-drug unit deputy chief Chan Borin said the four were arrested on Tuesday in a raid on Mr Piseth’s house in Preah Klaing commune.
Mr Piseth was an active drug distributor in the province. The group often sold drugs to loggers or drug users in the province on the Thai border, he said.
“They were arrested while they were smoking drugs inside the house,” he said.
Police seized 17 packages of crystal methamphetamine, weighing nearly half a kilo, one pistol with 18 bullets, three home-made guns and one long knife.
