Siem Reap Provincial Court yesterday charged a 58-year-old man and former high school teacher over the rape of his friend’s wife.

Suth Sophal, an officer with the provincial Major Crimes Unit, said the accused was from Banteay Meanchey province’s Serei Sorphoan district.

Mr Sophal said the court yesterday charged him with rape and death threats following his arrest on Wednesday in Prey Veng province.

Mr Sophal said that the suspect was arrested after he raped the 38-year-old the wife of a friend in Siem Reap province, before fleeing to Prey Veng.

“He raped his friend’s wife two times, once in May and once in August, in Siem Reap province,” he said. “He then fled to Prey Veng after his friend found out about the rapes.”

“He was arrested in accordance with a court warrant for his arrest based on the victim’s lawsuit,” he added.

According to the warrant, the victim’s husband had invited his friend to stay with him at his home in March 2017 for an indefinite amount of time.

On May 10 at about 9.30am, the suspect raped the victim while her husband was not at home and she was looking after her two-year-old daughter.

“After the rape, he took his phone to photograph nude photos of her and threatened to kill her and post the nude photos on Facebook if she told her husband,” he said.

On August 10, the suspect again raped the victim while she was alone bathing, he added.

“He entered the bathroom to rape her and she tried to run away, but her caught her, tied her legs and hands and raped her,” he said. “After the rape, he again threatened to kill her or post the nude photos if she told her husband.”

Mr Sophal said the husband discovered the rapes after his daughter told him of the violence. The wife then confirmed the truth and the couple filed a lawsuit in August.
