The Interior Ministry’s Anti-Economic Crime department yesterday destroyed about 2,000 kilos of bad quality pig innards and chicken feet imported from Thailand without permission from the Ministry of Agriculture.

Deputy Director of the department Long Sreng said that authorities seized the meat yesterday at about 3am along National Road 5 in Preaek Pnov district and at another location in 7 Makara district in Phnom Penh.

The raid took place after traders illegally imported the goods via cars from Thailand into Poipet and on to Phnom Penh.

Mr Sreng added that after the raid, CamControl took samples of the meat for inspection and authorities then proceeded to burn the remaining goods because they were illegal.

“According to the law, we can destroy the goods after we seize them because it is the kind of food waste and the insides of the animal requires the permission from the Ministry of Agriculture before being imported,” said Mr Sreng.

Police also seized a white Hyundai truck which was used to transport the goods, but its driver managed to escape.
