Two Vietnamese women were charged yesterday with running a brothel from their Phnom Penh coffee shop.

Shop owner Kim Leang, 51, and manager Kim Liv, 45, were charged by Phnom Penh Municipal Court with procurement of prostitution.

They have been detained in Prey Sar prison.

Anti-human trafficking police officer Seng Sophal said police raided the coffee shop on Street 255 in Tuol Kork district on Saturday night.

Police caught eight prostitutes, mostly Khmer-speaking Vietnamese girls, and seized used and unused condoms from their rooms.

The girls were later freed after receiving advice from police and signing agreements not to repeat the behaviour.

The prostitutes told police the suspects allowed coffee shop workers to have sex with their clients for between $15 and $20.

The suspects took a commission of 10,000 riel ($2.50) to 20,000 riel ($5) per client.
