A former Royal Cambodian Armed Forces officer was jailed for a year yesterday for drunkenly firing ten bullets in the air in front of a Phnom Penh nightclub.
Touch Bopheap, 35, a major with the Defence Ministry, was charged with unauthorised holding of a weapon.
The shooting spree took place in front of the Entertainment 555 club in Daun Penh district.
Phnom Penh Municipal Court deputy prosecutor Ngin Pich said that on July 7 Mr Bopheap and friends drove to the club where he got very drunk.
Mr Bopheap got into an argument with a group of youths. He went outside and fired his pistol in the air to release his anger before fleeing.
Mr Pich said police identified Mr Bopheap from the club’s CCTV and witnesses who knew him.
